Your Community Your Theatre
At Backstage we recognise the importance of working with local schools and community groups to actively involve them in the arts.
Our ongoing partnerships with community groups and voluntary organisations has gained us a reputation as a professional and willing resource offering support, advice and encouragement to those who wish to participate in the arts.
We actively encourage local drama groups, community groups and schools to use the theatre’s expertise and facilities for both workshops and performances across the art-forms and welcome in particular initiatives that involve interaction with professional theatre practitioners.
Among the many local arts organisations with whom we work are:
- Aisling Children’s Arts Festival
- St Christophers Services
- The Attic Youth Café
- Longford Community Resources Limited
- Backstage Theatre Group and Youth Theatre
- Local schools such as Stonepark National School
- Amateur Drama Groups
- Dance Schools such as Shawbrook School of Dance and Peelo School of Dance
- St Mel’s Musical Society
The provision of performance space, administrative assistance and professional advice to groups such as these ensures that people of all age profiles and social backgrounds are introduced to the theatre environment and encouraged to become involved in arts activities.
This interaction also serves to break down barriers and counteract inhibitions and misconceptions about theatre, introducing potential new audiences to our professional theatre programme.
